![]() ![]() To put it simply, we do not deserve Martha Stewart. The way she flawlessly mixes what could be over-the-top opulence with a little bit of understated easiness makes her designs the ones to emulate.Īlso, since she's friends with Snoop Dogg, you know that her parties are absolutely going to be the most fun, and no one is going to go home wishing they hadn't bothered attending in the first place. She might have cut crystal candlesticks, but they'll be supporting tiny handmade pumpkins, or she might have Wedgewood table settings with a pumpkin punch bowl. The one thread that remains consistent through the years is that she has always had a few handmade elements scattered throughout. Her Halloween home transformations have ranged from kitschy goth to cute and light. "Goblin Market" and the collection in which it was first published led to Rossetti's standing as a writer of allegorical and lyric poetry. ![]() Most of the potential interpretations are not mutually exclusive. It can be read as a study of female sexuality, an allegory (or symbolic story) about divine and earthly love, a celebration of female heroism, or as a metaphor for Christ's sacrifice on the cross, among many other possibilities. Though Rossetti always maintained that "Goblin Market" is a children's poem, the strongly erotic elements underlying what is superficially a moral lesson make it a multi-layered and complex work.
