As part of the story, it is revealed that the Roswell crash was actually a shuttle from a much larger ship located in the asteroid belt. As an expert in the field of languages and communication, a former leader of a team in a first-contact situation with an isolated human tribe, and possessing a demonstrated ability to manage stress and react to emergencies, she is the first candidate chosen by NASA for a top secret mission. Summary with very, very minor spoilers (How else can I describe the storyline): The book focuses around a female linguist with extensive experience in field and emergency situations (although she tries to suppress those life experiences). I was pleasantly surprised that even though I thought I knew where the story would go, but there were plenty of twists, turns, and surprises in store. I went into this book already loving the concept of the story.

Armed with the nosy auntie network, her barista best bud, and her trusted Dachshund, Longanisa, Lila takes on this tasty, twisted case and soon finds her own neck on the chopping block."- Provided by publisher. With the cops treating her like she's the one and only suspect, and the shady landlord looking to finally kick the Macapagal family out and resell the storefront, Lila's left with no choice but to conduct her own investigation. But when a notoriously nasty food critic (who happens to be her ex-boyfriend) drops dead moments after a confrontation with Lila, her life quickly swerves from a Nora Ephron romp to an Agatha Christie case. There are a few really good twists in this book which, coupled with the humorous. What I liked: I always love stories about communities, especially new ones. As part of my bookofthemonth challenge (to read all my books from them) this one was included. She's tasked with saving her Tita Rosie's failing restaurant, and she has to deal with a group of matchmaking aunties who shower her with love and judgment. The Title/Cover Draw: I used to love cozy mysteries. When Lila Macapagal moves back home to recover from a horrible breakup, her life seems to be following all the typical rom-com tropes. "The first book in a new culinary cozy series full of sharp humor and delectable dishes-one that might just be killer. Of course, LBJ never strangled anyone with a bike lock (as far as we know) but he still had enough blood on his hands to incarnadine the multitudinous seas, or at least turn them a ghastly pink. Both men get caught up in a dangerous game that they turn out to be really, really good at, and both have, shall we say, an open-door policy vis-à-vis the dark side. Seen side by side like this, LBJ the wheeler-dealer and Walter White the meth dealer share a certain resemblance they inhabit the same moral penumbra. every night, I was also working my way through the first two seasons of Breaking Bad. I’d call it a biographie-fleuve, but I don’t think that’s a real word even in French. ‘Political biography’ is too pissant a term for this Ahab-like undertaking. (I wonder who they’ll get to play Obama when the time comes. Not being American myself, I have no particular interest in US presidential history, unless that history can be shoehorned into an entertaining biopic, preferably with a British actor in the lead role. The last president to serve as a living link between the nineteenth and the twentieth centuries, Truman’s story spans the raw world of the Missouri frontier, World War I, the powerful Pendergast machine of Kansas City, the legendary Whistle-Stop Campaign of 1948, and the decisions to drop the atomic bomb, confront Stalin at Potsdam, send troops to Korea, and fire General MacArthur. In this riveting biography, acclaimed historian David McCullough not only captures the man-a more complex, informed, and determined man than ever before imagined-but also the turbulent times in which he rose, boldly, to meet unprecedented challenges. Truman is one of the greatest of American stories, filled with vivid characters-Roosevelt, Churchill, Stalin, Eleanor Roosevelt, Bess Wallace Truman, George Marshall, Joe McCarthy, and Dean Acheson-and dramatic events. Truman, whose presidency included momentous events from the atomic bombing of Japan to the outbreak of the Cold War and the Korean War, told by America’s beloved and distinguished historian.
